Winter Solstice - Plus A Full Eclipse of the Moon

Tomorrow starts our first full day of winter and the day of the shortest daylight.  It is also the day of the longest shadows.  If we have sun on Wednesday, check it out.  There will be long shadows even at noon.  But tonight while the clouds are covering the moon and we are sleeping, there will be a full eclipse of the moon.  Top it off it is a blue moon too!  You could wake up and check it out at 3am and then sleep later since we have another late start.

NO CONCERT - The Weather Wins

We will have a 3 hour early out.  The third grade will have lunch at 11:05 and dismissal at 11:50.  Toy Shoppe will be rescheduled sometime in January.

No Winter Concert "The Toy Shoppe"

So sad . . . too bad.  The weather did not cooperate with us.  As of now, we do not know when or if there will be a reschedule of the concert.  I hope so, since the students are more than ready to perform.  Enjoy your time tonight with your family and remember to study your December spelling words.

Third Grade Daily Home Work

We expect students to read from 20 to 40 minutes daily.  We provide some of the reading as fluency practice, which is generally on the back of a spelling list. Spelling should be practiced daily and it can found be on the Spell City website.  Math home work is memorization of math facts. Fourth grade teachers expect third graders to know the multiplication facts.  So if you are still on addition and subtraction, you better get going.  Ask Santa for flashcards.  Also any gold standard that you have not passed, such as regrouping in subtraction and addition, should be practiced at home.

Snow Day Tomorrow!

Last Friday, I wrote that we would have a snow day tomorrow.  Well it will happen again.  This is a good time to remind you that we go outside everyday that the wind chill is above zero.  Kids need snow-pants, boots, glove or mittens and a warm jacket.  Fashion boots are cute and are great for inside but they do not cut it in the cold or wet weather.  Stay warm tomorrow and stay safe.  See you all on Thursday for our Winter Concert.

Native American Reports

Today was a research day!  The students worked with a partner and found facts about a Native American Indian Tribe.  They took notes on the kinds of food they ate and how they got food and what kind of homes they made and lived in.  Most students started their posters of the project.  We almost forgot our early lunch.
